ABT Spring Season Features New Works by Ratmansky, Wheeldon, Millepied
World premieres by choreographers Alexei Ratmansky and Christopher Wheeldon and the U.S. premiere of a new work by Benjamin Millepied will highlight American Ballet Theatre’s spring season at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, May 16 to July 9, 2011.
The spring season opens with a gala performance featuring ABT’s principal dancers on May 16 at 6:30 p.m. New works by Ratmansky, ABT artist in residence, and Wheeldon will premiere on May 24 as part of an all-repertory program running May 24 to 26, which also includes Antony Tutor’s Shadowplay and the new Millepied work. The Bright Stream, a comic ballet in two acts choreographed by Ratmansky, will have its New York premiere on June 9.
Other spring season productions (and their opening dates) include Don Quixote (May 17), Giselle (May 27), Lady of the Camellias (June 3), Coppélia (June 16), Cinderella (June 25), Swan Lake (June 27), and The Sleeping Beauty (July 5).
