Two aspiring professional dancers ages 18 and up will receive a scholarship to this summer’s Paul Taylor Summer Intensive program in New York City, taught by members of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Taylor 2, and Taylor alumni.
Paul Taylor is the last living member of the pantheon of choreographers who created America’s indigenous art of modern dance. Taylor’s impact on dance has stretched over six decades, since he first burst upon the dance scene in 1954 as both a virtuoso performer and a choreographer.
Since the company’s founding in 1954, Taylor has choreographed 134 dances and he continues to create two new works a year for his 16-member company. Taylor has achieved countless accolades, including two of America’s highest artistic distinctions: the Kennedy Center Honors and the National Medal of Arts.
Semi-finalists will be chosen through online voting. Then, a jury of five led by Taylor will award the scholarships to one male and one female winner. Each will receive a full scholarship to the four-week intensive dance program and a $500 cash stipend to be used towards travel and expenses.
To enter, submit a video (up to 90 seconds in length) that expresses your love of dance and why you deserve to attend the intensive. All dance genres are welcome. Submission deadline is April 14. Online voting starts April 15 and runs through April 21. The winner will be announced April 27. For full details, visit www.talenthouse.com/paul-taylor-dance-company-self-summer-intensive.
