Bolshoi’s Production of ‘Esmeralda’ Leaps into Local Cinemas

Esmeralda, Victor Hugo’s tale of love and loyalty triumphing over corruption, springs to life when Dance in Cinema presents a live broadcast of The Bolshoi Ballet’s performance of this classic ballet on October 9 at 11am EDT/8amPDT.
Through Dance in Cinema, ballet productions from around the world are presented live in movie theaters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa, this new version by Yuri Burklava and Vasily Medvedev stars Maria Alexandrova, Denis Savin, and Ruslan Skvortsov, and will be broadcast live from the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow. The production is part of the Bolshoi’s 2011-2012 season.
Upcoming live broadcasts include The Bolshoi Re-Opening Gala, October 28 at 10am EDT, featuring principal dancers and soloists of the Bolshoi Ballet; and The Sleeping Beauty, November 20, 10am EST, starring Svetlana Zakharova and American Ballet Theatre’s David Hallberg, the first American to join the Bolshoi company.
