DCNT Celebration Recognizes Dance Artists and Supporters

The 2011 Dance Council Honors, set for October 2 at 3pm in Dallas, Texas, will recognize five outstanding Texans for professional and service achievements in dance.

The event includes a gala showcase of selected 2011 Dance Council of North Texas Scholarship recipients and Dallas Black Dance Theatre, as well as a silent auction and a reception.

The following DCNT awards will be presented:

  • Mary McLarry Bywaters Award for Lifetime Contribution to Dance to Revathi Satyu, founder and director of the Arathi School of Dance, who has sown the seeds of classical Indian dance in the Dallas-San Antonio area.
  • Natalie Skelton Award for Artistic Excellence to Michael Serrecchia, a choreographer/director and part of the original Broadway cast of A Chorus Line.
  • Mary Warner Award for Service to Dance to DCNT President Danny Curry, vice president of the Bruce Wood Dance Company and now treasurer of the Bruce Wood Dance Project, and board member of Fort Worth/Dallas Ballet and Sammons Center for the Arts.
  • Larry White Dance Educator Award to Dorothy “Dottie” Williams Hunt Kleeb, who dedicated her life to teaching and choreographing or youth development programs, pageants and musicals for the Longview Civic Opera and community theater.
  • Texas Tap Legend to Gene Pflug, who taught tap for 12 years at the Gingham Girls Studios, then musical comedy and advanced tap at the Calico Kids, Inc. in Garland for more than 25 years. During these years, his students and productions received 110 gold medals.

The evening will be held at the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, 2700 Flora Street, Dallas. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for DCNT members, and $20 for students under the age of 16 and include the reception.

Proceeds benefit the Dance Council of North Texas and its scholarship program. Tickets go on sale September 1 at www.thedancecouncil.org, 214.219.2290, or at the door if space is available. Parking is free. Seating is limited; reservations are strongly urged.
