Ajkun Ballet’s spring season includes performances of classics such as Don Quixote and The Sleeping Beauty in select New York theaters, followed by an international performance tour of Italy, Albania, and Australia.
New York City performances include:
- Don Quixote, May 5 to 7, City Center, with choreography by Chiara Ajkun after Alexander Gorsky
- Goya—The Spanish Master, May 26 to 28, MMAC Theater, world premiere with choreography by Leonard Ajkun
- “The Face To Face Series,” August 17 and 18, City Center, with choreography by Chiara Ajkun and Ellen Sinopoli
- The Sleeping Beauty, August 19, a new full-length production with choreography by Chiara Ajkun after Marius Petipa, Hostos Theater for Arts and Culture.
Also at the Egg Center for the Performing Arts in Albany, New York, on August 9 the ballet will present a free event suitable for all ages, “Matinee with the Dancers,” with a performance of The Sleeping Beauty on August 13. On its international tour, the ballet will present The Sleeping Beauty in Albania in June, Don Quixote in Italy in July, and a mixed bill in September in Australia.
Ajkun Ballet Theater of New York, under the direction of Chiara and Leonard Ajkun, will include three full-length ballets and two new contemporary creations in its 2010-2011 season.
The season opens with the world premiere of Legacy, the Odyssey of Albania, October 28 to 30 at the MMAC Theater in New York, and continues with December performances of The Nutcracker at various venues across the state. A special children’s show, “An Afternoon With the Sugar Plum Fairy,” will be presented December 3 and 4 at the Linda Kelly Theater in New Rochelle, New York.
Spring and summer shows include Women Thru History in March, Don Quixote in April and May; Goya, the Spanish Master in May; and The Sleeping Beauty and the “Face to Face” series in August. New dancers joining the company include Andrea Escobar, Francesco Bruni, Marcello Bernard, Marie Wilhelm, Laura Brunori, Marta Codato, and Louisa Mann.
