Misty’s Dance Unlimited of La Crosse, Wisconsin, has teamed up with Coulee Parenting Connection magazine to start “Cash for Classrooms,” which will provide $5,000 in grants to area classrooms this fall.
Studio owner Misty Lown said the program was started in response to budget cuts in local public schools. Through “Cash for Classrooms,” about 20 classroom grants of up to $250 each will be awarded based on applications submitted by November 11. To encourage children to take an active role in education, Lown said, all applications must be written by the schoolchildren themselves.
Priority will be given to grant applications that support literacy and/or fine arts programs. The grants can be used for projects or purchase of materials. Applications must be from students in grades K-12 at a public or private school in the Wisconsin communities of La Crosse, Holmen, Onalaska, and West Salem, as well as La Crescent, Minnesota.
