I was delighted to see Anna Marie Leo as July’s “Teacher in the Spotlight.” Anna Marie was my teacher during the 1950s. She not only taught me to dance, but also pointed the way out of Wilmington, Delaware, toward a professional career that allowed me to travel the world and work with many of the great dancers and choreographers of the late 20th century. When my book, Rebel on Pointe: A Memoir of Ballet and Broadway, was published last fall, I sent a copy to Anna Marie, and she sent me a wonderful letter filled with the warmth and interest she first gave me when I was 8 years old. She has earned her place in the spotlight.

A great article [“Sharing the Love, Shaping the Mind,” December 2013] about the importance of a good ballet background to any dance discipline. Keep those pliés coming—they might not seem exciting now, but they will help you every step of the way in your dance career!

That’s our very own Callie Anne [Moyer] on the cover of Dance Studio Life [September 2015] along with our own Caryn Mueller in the inside! Thank you so much, Darren Lee Photography, for capturing the beauty of our dancers. I’m bursting with pride!
